The Santa Rosa Junior College is a public two-year institution that offers more than 100 majors and 150 certifications. Other nearby colleges and universities include Sonoma State University and Napa Valley College. Another major benefit of living in Santa Rosa is the fact that in-state tuition is available.

Compared to other California cities, Santa Rosa’s population has grown steadily over the past century. It was behind only Petaluma in the 1850s, but by 1870 it was the eighth-largest city in the state and the county seat of one of the most populous counties in the state. In addition to its large size, Santa Rosa’s growth was fueled by immigration. During the last 21 years, it added about 3,000 residents per year.
